Family Support Services

We offer a range of services to support you and your child throughout their health care journey.

Child Life Specialists

Our Child Life Specialists prepare patients for medical procedures, such as getting an X-ray or removing a cast, by using developmentally appropriate teaching materials and simulated medical equipment. They help minimize anxiety and fears, which helps children respond better to medical care.

Education Center

Our Education Center provides opportunities that empower families to manage their child’s diagnosis. Support groups and classes are hosted in our classroom, while private consultation rooms offer a space for one-on-one education sessions with registered dietitians, social workers, certified diabetes and asthma educators, and more.

Family Resource Center

The Family Resource Center has computers and other technology that provide families with opportunities to access educational materials and community resources.

Sibling Time

We have a playroom called Sibling Time, where families can bring healthy siblings to relax and have fun with other kids while they focus on their child’s health care appointment. Due to COVID-19 safety precautions, the playroom may be closed. Families are encouraged to call (562) 661-1401 to confirm availability.

Medical Support Services

The Children's Village houses a variety of medical services – making the health care experience more convenient for you.

Audiology

We have audiologists trained to diagnose, manage and treat hearing or balance problems for kids of all ages. To identify the nature and severity of hearing conditions, a series of tests must be conducted before a course of treatment can be developed. These screenings will be conducted in a special soundproof room, ensuring that background noise does not interfere with the test.

Imaging Services

We offer X-rays, as well as scans using the 3-D EOS Imaging System. Not only does it provide extremely detailed, high-quality 3D images, it also uses 50 percent less radiation than a standard x-ray – meaning less radiation exposure for little bodies. Additionally, we offer urodynamic testing that measures how the lower urinary tract functions. Urodynamic tests show how the bladder stores and empties urine.

Laboratory Services

Our pathologists are specially trained to provide comprehensive patient testing, including lab work for kids.

Nutrition Services

Our registered dietitians provide nutritional care for kids with a wide range of nutritional needs or issues. Nutritional assessments and treatment plans will be shared with the patient’s care team to allow this information to be integrated into their overall medical care.

Pharmacy

In our pharmacy, parents can fill, refill and pick up their child’s prescriptions the same day they see their doctor.
